DONATIONS towards a charity in memory of a Ryedale man have now reached nearly £7,000.

Friends and family of Liam Miller, from Terrington, are aiming to launch the charity to help underprivileged young people in his memory.

The 20-year-old was a former pupil at Malton School and studied music and art at York College before moving to university in Liverpool to study graphic design. A talented guitarist, he also played in a local band called Nocebo.

A Just Giving page set up with the aim of establishing the charity, which will be called L.I.A.M. (Laughter, Inspiration, Art, Music) has so far received donations from around the country and abroad.

Ian Hughes, a friend of the family for more than 20 years, set up the page, with the support of Liam's father, Pete, brother Jamie and sister Natalie.

"It is tremendous to have raised nearly £7,000 which includes the collection at the amazing send of for Liam and the profit from the bar," he said. "We are on our way and doing it for L.I.A.M."

Future fundraising events include the sale of limited editions of one of Liam's prints and a music and art festival next summer.

Ian said: "Now we need to apply for charity status and move things on to do some serious good with the money raised."

"We have lots of ideas and would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in organising a fundraising event."

"Depending on the success of the appeal and the first year's fundraising,it is hoped that the first grant would be made in August 2016."

Anyone who would like to help the charity and organise a fundraising event should contact Ian Hughes at terringtonian@gmail.com
