HELMSLEY rang to the sound of music, stories and theatre during a weekend of LittleFest.

More than 30 acts gave 56 performances across 24 venues in Helmsley, celebrating art in all its forms, with everything from theatre and folk music to painting and poetry.

Carolyn Frank, of Libby Butler Jewellers and committee member of Helmsley in Business, said: "LittleFest was fantastic, there was a really good atmosphere in the town and we've had lots of great feedback from locals and visitors alike.

"The weather was lovely and many performers were able to be outside, so it really felt like the whole town was full of entertainment, wherever you walked. It was just a really friendly and fun vibe all round."

The festival was created in conjunction with York Theatre Royal and the Helmsley Arts Centre as part of the On Our Turf initiative.

There was also a special art market at Helmsley Arts Centre, featuring artists, crafters and makers and an art trail around the town’s many galleries – along with some more unexpected venues.

Libby Pearson, one of the team of people behind LittleFest, said: "Helmsley Market Place, shops, cafes and businesses rang to the sound of music, stories and theatre - and all for free.

"Helmsley came alive to the arts all day long and visitors and locals clapped, sang-along, jigged and cheered. The Arts Centre hosted a vibrant and busy arts market and feedback about the whole LittleFest festival has been wonderful from artists and the public. Roll on 2016."
