MOTORISTS are being reminded that Sutton Bank will be closed for two weeks from Monday for essential maintenance work to be carried out.

North Yorkshire County Council said work costing £250,000 would ensure the road is safe in time for winter.

Additional work will be carried out in the area, including piling an embankment, reinstating crash barriers, and repair and reinstatement of the carriageway between the bottom of the Bank and Sutton-Under-Whitestonecliffe.

For six weeks after the closure, temporary traffic lights will be in place to ensure ongoing work can be carried out safely.

Sutton Bank will be fully closed for two weeks from Monday. From September 21 until October, 30, vehicles will be controlled by lights.

Diversions will be in place through Coxwold and Ampleforth and regular updates will be available at northyorks.gov.uk
