THIEVES have smashed their way into a shop and stolen chocolate and sweets.

The burglary happened at The Chocolate Box, Golden Lion Bank, Whitby, at about 4.30am on Saturday. The glass panel in the shop door was smashed and chocolate and sweets were stolen from inside.

A 24-year-old woman from Whitby was arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail.

Police are appealing for witnesses. In particular, they want information about a white male, age unknown with short blonde hair, 5'4" tall, skinny build, who may have been in the vicinity of Golden Lion Bank and in company with the female.
