A CLUB which has become a community hub for Norton and the surrounding area is holding a series of fundraising events to help develop the facility.

The indoor bowls club, off Scarborough Road, was sold to Ryedale Community and Leisure Centre (RCLC) for £350,000, following approval by Ryedale District Council in May 2014.

RCLC has since expanded to include dance school Dance Expression and Brooklyn Pre-school playgroup, which are also based in the town. It also has a new function suite, The Furlongs and bowling using a five-rink facility.

Committee members are now aiming to secure the future of the centre with a number of fundraisers starting on Friday with a cabaret night. Future events include a yard sale on Sunday, September 13, at 10.30am, which will include a cake stall and tombola.

On Friday, September 25, from 7.45pm to 11pm, there will be a Come Dancing evening, with tickets £5 on the door. It will be followed by a race night on Friday, October 16, at 7pm.

John Harrison, chairman of the RCLC, said: “I am very grateful to have a good team of members helping to manage this project. We certainly have a challenge ahead to complete our work in setting up the premises as a resource for all the community to use, so we need the support of the residents of Ryedale.

“With that support we will have a very successful leisure centre at the heart of the community.”
