FLAMINGO Land has welcomed their first newborn red panda cub to the park.

The baby girl, who has yet to be given a name, was discovered by one of the zoo keepers on June 4 and she is now beginning to explore her surroundings outside of the nest box.

The newborn red panda cub, which looks similar to a raccoon but is of course mainly red in colour, is the first cub of her parents Tai Jang and Bai Jiao who have been at Flamingo Land for two years and have been on display since January 2014.

A spokesperson for the park said: “Flamingo Land is delighted to announce that we have a newly born red panda.

“This is the pair’s first cub, so it is a very exciting time for the staff here and we are delighted at the cub’s progress so far.”

The park has also welcomed the arrival of a second Rothschild giraffe on August 20. The giraffe is currently living in the Rothschild giraffe house along with its parents Mylene and George. The new arrival brings the herd of giraffes at the park up to 10.
