Police have issued a CCTV image of a woman they would like to speak to in connection with the theft of a handbag and food in Scarborough.

A woman entered Marks and Spencer in the town at about 11.30am on July 28. She picked up a white handbag from a shelf, then went to the food section where she picked up a bag of salad.

Without making any attempt to pay for the items, she left the store onto St Nicholas Street, and turned right heading towards the Grand Hotel.

Officers are appealing to anyone who can help identify the woman shown in the image to contact them, as she may have important information that could help the investigation.

Anyone who can help identify her is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option two and ask for PC Michael Barker or Scarborough Police.

If you wish to remain anonymous, you can pass information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
