FROM minions to the hare and the tortoise, residents of Thornton-le-Dale once again excelled themselves in their creations as part of their annual scarecrow festival.

For three days across the Bank Holiday weekend scarecrows took over the village as residents and visitors alike came to admire their creations and take part in the village scarecrow trail.

Sarah Crabtree, one of the organisers, said that once again residents had shown impressive creativity with their designs.

She said: "We have had some fantastic entries and once again people have really excelled themselves.

"We've had everything from characters from the Despicable Me film to Absolutely Fabulous and catch of the day outside of the fish and chip shop."

Other creations included a full-size pirate ship complete with pirates and Snow White.

Despite wet weather on the Bank Holiday Monday, Saturday and Sunday saw the village "busier than ever" according to Sarah who said she was thrilled that the event had celebrated another successful year.

She said: "It has been really busy and really well received which is great. The village was absolutely packed on Saturday and Sunday, I have never seen it so busy. It has been another fantastic year."
