POLICE have launched a series of motorbike safety events in a bid to reduce the number of motorcyclists killed on North Yorkshire’s roads.

As part of the National Police Chiefs Council Motorcycle Week of Action, BikeSafe events will start on Bank Holiday Monday and continue throughout the week to educate motorcyclists about the dangers they face on the road.

Through theory based presentations and observed rides, BikeSafe workshops will aim to help riders discover their strengths and weaknesses and learn how to get more from their biking and stay safe on the roads.

Traffic Sergeant Sean Grey, who is also the regional BikeSafe coordinator said: “By improving skills, knowledge and hazard awareness it makes riding safer and more enjoyable.”

Events will take place at the following locations:

Monday, August 31 – Helmsley Market Place from  12-6pm
Wednesday, September 2 - Manor Café,  Bellerby  from 4-8pm
Thursday, September 3 -  Whistlestop Café, Whitby from 4-8pm
Saturday, September 5 - Squires Café, Sherburn in Elmet from 10am-7pm
