PREPARATIONS for the 108th annual Farndale Show are well underway with a whole host of entertainment lined-up for visitors.

Set in a secluded valley, the show provides a picturesque setting to enjoy entertainment including sheepdog displays and wool spinning, as well as all of the traditional livestock classes.

This year's show, which takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31, will feature its two traditional marquees filled with local produce and creative art works, as well as plenty of entries from youngsters.

Outside there will be cattle, goats and sheep being judged in various classes, as well as speciality Swaledale sheep.

Horses and ponies will be well represented at the show in the jumping and gymkhana events. Special attractions at this year's show include Carol Mellin and her sheepdog display, Owl Adventures flying show, Clydesdale horses and a vintage tractor parade.

There will also be sheep shearing, wool spinning demonstrations, which can all be taken in from the comfort of a ringside chair a cup of tea and slice of homemade cake while listening to a traditional brass band.

The showfield is next to St Mary's Church, Farndale, and opens at 8am. Entry is £5 for adults and £1 for children and there is free car parking available nearby.
