A NORTON woman has taken second place in one of the UK's biggest maritime amateur photography competition.
Rachael Medley was runner-up to winner Steve Jackson, from Redcar, in the competition organised by Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
Rachael, who received a bottle of Old Pulteney 12 Year Old whisky, said: "I'm thrilled to be placed as runner-up in the Wish You Were Here competition. I love to capture a moment in photography, especially nautical themed scenes as I love to be by the sea. The scenery is always changing and offering a multitude of emotions. I took the photo when I was on honeymoon, which makes it extra special to me."
Now in its 10th year, the competition has received hundreds of entries from outstanding shots of surfers to beautiful, calming sunsets and striking close-ups of a variety of wildlife in their natural habitat. Collectively, the images show the exceptional diversity and breathtaking beauty of the coastline.
Margaret Mary Clarke, senior brand manager of Old Pulteney, said: “Over the past 10 years Old Pulteney’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ competition has received thousands of outstanding maritime themed entries. We are delighted with its continued popularity among the nation’s photography enthusiasts and the very high standard of entries we continue to receive. This year Rachael’s photograph impressed the judges - we loved the interesting use of the colour palate and changes in the foreground and background. Congratulations to Rachael."
Old Pulteney’s Wish You Were Here competition is run in association with the Sunday Express.
