SALTERSGATE Farmers Hunt Country Show and Sports on Saturday saw all class entries up on previous years.

The show, which has expanded over the years, also saw a good number of visitors despite the early strong winds.

There were numerous horse classes, including showjumping, a gymkhana and a team relay, as well as 14 showing classes.

Dogs were also well represented with dog agility performances, trail hounds, terriers, lurchers and whippets, as well as sheepdog trials.

Sheila Garbutt, one of the show organisers, said she was pleased with how the show had gone.

"The wind was a bit disappointing, but we had a good day with some wonderful entertainment, including Hunmanby Silver Band who coped well in the marquee," she said.

"Entries were up on previous years in all classes, which was pleasing as well."

Mrs Garbutt said names had also been given to a new litter of puppies belong to the Saltersgate Hunt at the show.

"We were originally asking for five names as we didn't think the sixth one would survive but he has been hand-reared and is doing well now," she said.

"Their mum is called Jamjar and dad is Ladbroke, therefore, as is tradition, all of the puppies needed a name beginning with the letter ā€˜Lā€™, so we have chosen Lockton, Lupin, Liberty, Landmark, Linton and Lanner."
