AN exclusive performance of a two-man show will take place at the new seabird centre at Bempton Cliffs on July 31, from 7.30pm.
Shearwater is the result of storyteller Malcolm Green’s three-month hermit-like existence on an uninhabited island off the coast of Iceland.
What he experienced there forms the basis of this touring show that has captivated audiences wherever it’s been performed – from the Isle of Skye to Newcastle University.
The shearwater of the title is a seabird that travels huge distances, up to 6000km, as it journeys from the southern hemisphere to its summer breeding grounds.
In the show, myths and legends are beautifully woven together with music and poetry to bring the wild world of the seabirds to life in a rich evocation of nature’s wonders and hardships. The shearwater’s epic journey crosses paths with a young man as he comes of age and a woman who shape-shifts from human to bird.
Shearwater will be performed by Malcolm Green and Tim Dalling in the new seabird centre at Bempton Cliffs on Friday, July 31, at 7.30 pm.
Tickets are £7.50. To book, phone 01262 422212 or email bempton.cliffs@rspb.org.uk Refreshments will be available.
A series of RSPB Skua and Shearwater Cruises sail from Bridlington Harbour aboard the Yorkshire Belle from 8 August. More details at rspb.org.uk/bemptoncliffs
