ONE of the UK’s leading sopranos Rebecca Newman is set to impress the audience at this year's Castle Howard Proms on Saturday, August 22.

Returning to North Yorkshire, Rebecca is no stranger to North Yorkshire audiences after she started her career busking on the streets of York.

Dubbed "the people’s soprano", Rebecca is now touring with the UK’s biggest-selling classical artist Russell Watson and has become the first unsigned soprano to top the Official UK Classical Albums Chart.

She said: “I’m thrilled to be part of this year’s special anniversary Proms Spectacular Concert. Performing some of my favourite songs in the stunning grounds of Castle Howard will be truly memorable. I will be performing alongside tenor John Pierce, who won Cardiff Young Singer of the World in 2011 and together we will be performing all of the classic Proms song so there are sure to be a few crowd pleasers.”

Castle Howard Proms is celebrating its 25th anniversary this summer and will be one of the biggest concerts to date with record crowds expected over the weekend.

The concerts will be hitting all the high notes with two great evenings of musical entertainment, kicking off with the king of boogie woogie Jools Holland on Friday, August 21, followed by the ever popular Proms Spectacular taking place on the Saturday night. Both concerts will feature firework finales.

David Stubley, of Lighthouse Events, said: “For anyone who hasn’t experienced the Proms Spectacular I would urge them to join us this year as it will be a truly special night. Gather your friends and family, plan the picnics and the wine and get ready for a very special 25th Anniversary Proms Spectacular.”
