Castle Howard’s grand interiors will play host to an array of spectacular floral displays at the stately home’s annual flower festival this weekend.

Members from Malton, Acomb and New Earswick flower clubs will work alongside Castle Howard’s own florist and garden team to fill the house with a collection of different arrangements from contemporary to traditional, each taking inspiration from their lavish surroundings.

An intriguing display of carnivorous plants set against the dark rose-branch wallpaper will transform the Castle Howard Dressing Room before visitors make their way down the Antique Passage lined with 10 silver birches in full leaf; the trees will create an archway casting dappled light upon the antique statues and busts.

Passing through the Garden Hall, visitors will be transported to an English cottage garden with traditional blooms nestling around the Howard family’s giant doll’s house before enjoying a variety of displays in the south front rooms.

Taking centre stage in the Long Gallery, a large wooden Garuda statue will be ablaze with orange, yellow and red blooms as Castle Howard commemorates 75 years since the fire which destroyed several of its rooms.

A plant and garden gift market, as well as a number of drop-in talks and demonstrations will take place throughout the festival. Hourly guided tours of the gardens will take in the seasonal blooms and freshly planted potager in the walled garden as well as the beauty and tranquillity of the woodland garden.

Castle Howard’s flower festival runs from Thursday 25 to Sunday, June 28, with entry included in a house and grounds admission ticket. The gardens and shops open from 10am and the house opens from 11am with last entry at 4pm (3pm on Sunday 28 June).
