TWO best friends are preparing to take on pits of mud, cargo nets and plenty of pink inflatables as part of a unique 5k race.

Raising money for Cancer Research UK, Tracey Allen, of Norton, and best friend Emma Preston, of Pocklington, will take part the Pretty Muddy run on July 4.

Held at the Knavesmire at York Racecourse, the race will see the women tackle a range of fun yet tough obstacles with the mud making everything that little bit harder.

Tracey, 27, who ran the Race for Life last year, has also organised a bumper family fun day to raise money for the charity.

She said: “I ran the Race for Life last year after my mum was diagnosed with cancer and people were so generous with their donations so this is a little way of saying thank you.

“I am really excited about it now. I was a bit nervous at first but now I’m just excited. The family fun day is bigger than I ever would have expected it to be too, which is great.”

The family fun day, held at The Union Inn, Norton, on Sunday, June 7, from 11am to 4pm, will have face painters, glitter tattooists and nail-painting on offer for guests, as well as a barbecue and cake sale.

Ryan Swain and Frank Lamingo will be entertaining guests at the event and Tracey has already started collecting prizes for the raffle.

Tracey said: “I have a really good group of friends who have been helping me to get fundraising prizes and donations for the raffle.

“If anyone would like to donate anything I am happy to collect it.”

To donate a prize, phone Tracey on 07539 446563.
