AFTER seven years of planning, fundraising and construction, the Yorkshire Wolds Railway is unveiling its new visitor centre as the line opens.

The heritage railway will open over the bank holiday weekend, on the Sunday and Monday, and although the project will be officially open, attention will now move on to stage two of the development.

Ed Hague, chairman of the railway, said that guests will be able to see the work done so far, learn more about the history of the Yorkshire Wolds Railway and find out about plans for stage two.

He said: “It is such a monumental achievement for us.

“We have seen the social and economic benefits that heritage railways can bring to other areas and we hope that in the long term we at the Yorkshire Wolds Railway can do similar.”

Visitors at the opening will also have the opportunity to ride in a cab of a locomotive along the demonstration line.

The railway will be open from 10am to 4pm on Sunday and Monday and there will be a special opening ceremony at 11am on Monday.

The Yorkshire Wolds Railway would also like to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer or anyone who has any pictures or stories of the line.
