GAS company Third Energy will submit an application to carry out fracking in Ryedale within a week.

According to a public notice at the site, the application to carry out test fracking at Kirby Misperton well site is due to be submitted to North Yorkshire County Council on Monday.

Drilling samples were taken from the site at Kirby Misperton, known as KM8, in 2013 and it was concluded that the rock formation could not produce conventional gas. The results showed that the rock deeper within the formation had produced better results. The plan will be to hydraulically fracture five zones in the KM8 rock.

The public notice, dated May 11, said that Third Energy is applying to “hydraulically stimulate and test the various geological formations previously identified during the KM8 drilling operation and subsequent analysis of the data, followed by the production of gas from one or more of these formations”.

Campaign group Frack Free Ryedale said it is worried that it could lead to fracking being carried out across Ryedale.

The public will be able to inspect the application at County Hall when it is validated after May 18.
