A DRIVER and passenger were taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision with two other vehicles.

Three cars were involved in a crash at 10.10pm on Friday on the A169 Pickering to Whitby road, in Lockton, around 1.25 miles north of the Fox and Rabbit Inn.

It involved a black Peugeot 106 travelling south on the A169 towards Pickering, a black Mercedes car and a black Honda Civic, both travelling in the opposite direction towards Whitby.

Firefighters from Pickering, Kirbymoorside and Goathland attended and used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the 24-year-old driver and 22-year-old passenger from a black Peugeot 106.

They were taken to James Cook Hospital, in Middlesbrough, and Hull Royal Infirmary respectively.

Two females in the Mercedes were assessed at the scene by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment. The male and female occupants of the Honda were uninjured.

The road remained closed for more than five hours while police collision investigators carried out an examination of the vehicles and the scene.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision, or any of the vehicles involved prior to it, to contact them.
