In a week where charities are pulling together to help the victims of the Nepal earthquake, Ryedale residents are asked to dig deep to support Save the Children.
At least 3,326 people are now known to have died in a massive earthquake which hit Nepal on Saturday and more than 6,500 people have been injured, according to the National Emergency Operation Centre.
Dozens of people are also reported to have been killed in neighbouring China and India.
Save the Children is making an initial allocation of £300,000 from its Children's Emergency Fund to scale up immediately its relief effort. The charity is also looking to mobilise stocks of relief items within the country and across the region.
This week, collectors will be out and about in Ryedale during what is Save the Children week, April 26 to May 2.
Collections will be taking place in Malton, Norton and surrounding villages during the week and in-store at Morrisons, in Malton, on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2.
A spokesman for the charity said: "Look out for the volunteers during this week and give as generously as you can."
