Spring Steam Gala, Pickering

Visitors to Pickering will be able to see eight unique steam trains in action as part of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Spring Steam Gala this weekend.

Held over this weekend and next, the gala promises to be a fun-packed event with a selection of steam trains running from Pickering to Whitby along the North York Moors Railway.

The Scarborough and District Railway Modellers will also be at the gala and there will be various stalls and other exhibitions on offer for visitors as well as plenty of refreshments and great cafes and restaurants nearby.

The P2 Steam Locomotive Company will have an exhibition stand at Pickering station, as will the LNER Coach Association.

 

Malton and Norton Folk Festival

Morris dancers will descend on to Malton’s market place on Saturday for another year of song and dance throughout the town.

Dancers will be in the market place from 10.30am until late afternoon. There will also be a folk, craft and trade fair in the Milton Rooms and a musician’s session at Suddaby’s from 11.30am.

Saturday night’s concert headliners are Blackbeards Tea Party and Chris Helme. Tickets are £16 for Saturday night and are available from Malton at Suddaby’s, The Blue Ball, the Milton Rooms and from the festival office on 01653 696338.

 

Ryedale Game and Country Fair, Malton

There will be a host of exciting exhibitors and entertainers at Scampston hall this weekend for the Ryedale Game and Country Fair.

There will be scurry drivers and horse boarders who are both on the fourth of their UK challenges so expect lots of thrills and spills as the riders hurtle around a field of obstacles on an enlarged skateboard behind a galloping horse.

There will also be birds of prey, racing terriers and a dog show as well as a huge variety of stalls, tents and meet and greet opportunities.

Scampston Hall is hosting the event and will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm. Tickets cost £12 per adult.

 

Hawk Walk, Castle Howard

Experience the magic and thrill of flying birds of prey this Sunday at Castle Howard. Visitors will be able to learn how to handle the hawks correctly before enjoying a walk around the arboretum, with the hawk following on in the trees and flying to your gloved hand.

Guests will also meet other fascinating falcons and owls who will fly to you from perches. This is a great opportunity to get up close to some amazing predators and learn out their behaviour and the work of a falconer.

An adult day ticket costs £40 and the Hawk Walk will run from 11am-12.30pm.

 

Zoffany Ensemble, Kirkbymoorside

The Zoffany Ensemble will make their Yorkshire debut as they present A Chamber Music Concert from 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall, Kirkbymoorside.

The Zoffany Ensemble string quintet was formed in 2009 and the group will be playing Haydn’s quartet in D, opus 64 No. 5 ‘the Lark’ and Shubert’s Quintet in C opus 163.

Drinks will be available from 7pm and during the interval and the proceeds will be split between Fadmoor and Farndale village halls.
