TWELVE volunteers are recreating an historic shearing challenge at Appleton le Moors to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Based on the “back to back” challenge first completed in 13 hours in 1811 with one sheep’s wool, they hope to produce a sweater from fleece shorn from three alpacas.
If successful, the fleece will go from the animals’ backs to a man’s back in one weekend.
The shearing event will start in the village hall at 10am on Saturday, May 9, and will be open to the public for a small admission fee.
