A YOUNG boy was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon after a crash just outside York city walls.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the ten-year-old boy was knocked down by a car in Nunnery Lane, close to the junction with Blossom Street, at around 3.30pm.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “The ambulance service was called at around 3.30pm to reports of a male being hit by a car, and we sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the scene. The casualty was conveyed to York Hospital.”

The boy’s injuries were not believed to be serious, the spokesman added.

The police were called to the scene and closed Nunnery Lane in both directions for around 20 minutes, urging drivers to avoid the area.

The driver of the car, an Audi A3, did not need treatment by the paramedics.
