A CRISIS team manager and child and adolescent mental health service support team working in Ryedale have won awards at an NHS award ceremony.

Nicky Scott won the leadership award, while the service team were presented with the winner’s award for tackling stigma and promoting social inclusion, at the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust Making a Difference Awards ceremony.

Held earlier this month at the Thistle Hotel, Middlesbrough, the ceremony saw 20 individuals and teams pick up awards across 10 categories. More than 225 nominations were received for this year’s awards with 40 nominees being shortlisted for the final.

The awards ceremony was compered by BBC presenter Peter Grant and awards handed out by trust chief executive Martin Barkley.

Nicky, who is based at Cross Lane Hospital in Scarborough, was described in the nominations as a “role model”, with her respect for others being applauded, along with her ability to build morale, encourage teams to embrace change and perform to the best of their ability.

She said: “I’m completely overwhelmed. This is really heart-warming. I love being a nurse.”

Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, at Lake House, Scarborough, created three films with the input of young service users to help break down stigma and promote inclusion about child and adolescent mental health, self-harm and family therapy.

The child and adolescent mental health services team said: “We’re proud and excited. It’s amazing for the young people and their parents and we’re please the hard work of the team has been recognised”.

Martin Barkley, chief executive of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust, said: “The Making a Difference Awards is one of our ways of formally recognising the hard work and commitment of staff . We have a wonderful team of people in place who work hard to improve people’s lives by minimising the impact of mental ill health or learning disability.”
