SEVERE weather warnings have been issued for North Yorkshire over the coming days.
The Met Office said Monday would see "frequent hail, sleet and snow showers", with potential for between six and ten centimetres of snow on higher ground.
A spokesman also said: "Winds will be strong at times, with gusts to over 50 mph on coasts and hills. "The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel and for hazardous driving conditions at times."
A chief forecaster said the weather was due to a deep area of low pressure moving from Scotland towards the North Sea, but it was expected to veer northwesterly by Tuesday.
The forecaster said this would "bring frequent showers to many parts, these falling as hail, sleet and snow", and "lightning could be an additional hazard".
The Met Office also said there was a high chance of heavy rain in York throughout Sunday evening, with sleet showers throughout Monday.
