OLYMPIC swimming stars are taking part in a family fun day on Sunday to celebrate the official launch of Everyone Active’s leisure centres in Ryedale.

The company took over the management of Derwent Swim and Fitness Centre, in Norton, and Ryedale Sports Centre and Ryedale Swim and Fitness Centre, both in Pickering, last October, in partnership with Ryedale District Council.

To mark the launch, various free sports and children’s activities will be held at each of the centres throughout the day.

An Oceans of Fun event will take place at the Derwent Swim and Fitness Centre and Ryedale Swim and Fitness Centre and will give children between the ages of seven and 14 the opportunity to try out aquatic sports, including water polo and synchronised swimming.

The event will be hosted by James Goddard, Olympic swimmer and triple Commonwealth champion, Craig Figes, Olympic GB water polo player, and Sarah Spears, GB synchronised swimmer. Other activities will include roller skating, climbing wall sessions, a petting zoo, face painting, bouncy castle and clown, along with Peppa Pig and George.

Visitors will also be able to try out the centres’ new facilities for free and scheduled fitness and virtual classes will also be held throughout the day.

Fitness Centre and Ryedale Sports Centre – and will include personal appearances at intervals from the popular Peppa Pig and George.

“With such a wide range of free activities on offer throughout the day, we’re encouraging everyone to come along and take part in what promises to be a truly spectacular event.”
