PUPILS at West Heslerton Primary School have collected thousands of stamps to donate to charity.
The children started the collection for the Royal National Institute Of The Blind (RNIB) two years ago and have been helped by friends, families, staff, governors and members of the community.
Headteacher Rachel Wells said they had collected over 13kg of stamps which would now be sent on to the RNIB.
"We started the collection as part of our ethos at the school to support recycling as well as raising funds," she added.
"This is a traditional area where people tend to use a lot of stamps and people have been very supportive."
Mrs Wells said the collection had also been used in maths lessons with pupils weighing out the stamps before they were parcelled up.
"This is an on-going project so once these have gone we will start the collection again," she added.
"It helps the children see how different things can be recycled and raises their awareness of charities and the work that they do."
