COMMUNITY groups are being encouraged to get involved with this year’s Malton Food Lovers Festival.

Organisers are inviting groups to “set up stall” in a community kitchen, in Finkle Street, and show what is great about Malton and Norton.

Malton Amenity CIC hopes it will appeal to Scout groups or sports teams looking to recruit new members, a branch of the WI or volunteer group wanting to spread the word, or even school children wanting to sell their own home-produce.

Applicants should promote themselves with a food-related theme to tie in with the festival.

Tom Naylor-Leyland, festival director, said: “While we are very proud of the achievements over recent years which have helped turn Malton into a renowned food destination – one that’s talked about all over the country – we are keen to say that food isn’t the only thing we do really well.

“We have an incredible sense of community in Malton and Norton, both of which encompass a wide variety of groups and organisations. We want food to bring the community together even further and look forward to hearing people’s ideas as to how they can join in.”
