A PLEA for volunteers to help run a village gymkhana have been answered as a show date is announced for next year.

Members of the Acklam Sports and Gymkhana committee were forced to cancel the 100-year-old event earlier this year due to a lack of volunteers, but after calls for more people to come forward, organisers have said they are thrilled the event will be going ahead next year.

Secretary Chris Ackerley said she was pleased with the response the committee had received.

She said: “There has been a brilliant response to requests for help, lots of new ideas are being discussed and there is definitely going to be a fabulous Acklam Sports and Gymkhana event next year.

“We now have a committee of 10 people and all are keen to make sure that the 2015 event is a memorable one.”

The committee, which previously had six members who organised the show, held their first meeting at the end of October and it was well attended with people who were eager to help.

The committee is now looking for people to contribute pictures to a photo archive they are compiling.

The photographs can be from any of the day’s activities from shows in previous years. Ideally, the photos should include as much information as possible such as dates and names of both people and animals.

Photographs to contribute to the archive should be emailed to steve.wilcox@nhs.net or posted to Ingleside Cottage, Acklam, North Yorkshire, YO17 9RG.

The next committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 21, at 8pm, at the Half Moon pub in Acklam.
