SHOPPERS now have the opportunity to support their town with the launch of the Made in Malton brand.

The logo, which denotes a quality product item made in the town, has been awarded to microbrewery Brass Castle, delicatessen Malton Relish, The Patisserie bakery and chocolatiers Mennells.

Tom Naylor-Leyland, director of Malton Cookery School, which was also launched this year, said: “The Made in Malton brand is a benchmark for locally-made, top quality products which have been created in Malton.

“We are delighted that companies such as Brass Castle, Malton Relish, Mennells chocolates and The Patisserie have used it on some of their items, particularly as we are now in the run-up to Christmas.

“As people begin their festive shopping, there’s nothing more satisfying than knowing gifts bearing the logo will be under Christmas trees at various locations around the country, promoting Malton to a wide and appreciative audience.

“Of course, the logo can be used all year round, and anyone interested in using the logo for their Malton-based products should apply online in the first instance and any operators that take premises in Talbot Yard will also be able to use the logo on all their products.”

The logo will be used on Malton Relish products, including crab apple jelly and quince paste, while The Patisserie has used it on their Christmas cakes, florentines and stollen. Chocolate-makers Mennells will be placing the logo on their festive chocolate products.

Phil Saltonstall, of Brass Castle Brewery, in Yorkersgate, said: “Being able to promote our beers and the town in which they are made means we can ensure we ‘get the word out’ about the fantastic produce being made here in Malton.”
