A DISPLAY of Christmas trees decorated by businesses and organisations in Norton goes on show this weekend.

The town’s second Christmas tree festival, at St Peter’s Church, has been extended to run for a week following the success of last year’s event, which raised almost £600 for local charities.

A host of organisations are taking part, including Norton Primary School, Next Steps and Home-Start Ryedale.

Reverend Rachel Hirst, pictured, said entries were still welcome up to Friday evening.

“We have a good selection of people taking part, some who took part last year along with a few new ones,” she said.

“It proved very popular last year so we hope everyone will call at the church and have a look at the trees.”

She said the churches in Norton would also be rounding off Love Norton 14 with a surprise event on Saturday, December 6.

“All I can say is that it will take place somewhere in the the town during the morning,” she said.

“Our aim has been to show that we love Norton, it’s a great place and is a really good community to be part of and we won’t stop loving Norton once 2014 is over. There will be more that we will be doing together.”

The Christmas tree festival will be held on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, Sunday, noon to 2pm, Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5, from 4pm to 7.30pm, and Saturday, December 6, from 10am to 4pm. There will also be a visit from Father Christmas on Wednesday, December 3, from 4pm to 6pm.

Entry is free with donations for St Peter’s Church, Next Steps and Home-Start Ryedale.
