A DENTAL practice team in North Yorkshire have offered free check-ups to members of an African choir during their annual visits to the UK.

The team at Peasholm Dental Practice, Northstead Manor Drive, Scarborough, gave a warm welcome to the Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir when they arrived.

The choir, whose members stay with host families, travel to the UK to raise money for the Pearl of Africa Child Care charity, which helps provide education, food, shelter and healthcare to children in the Kampala and Masaka districts of Uganda.

Andy Moran, practice joint principal dentist, said: “This is the third time that the children’s choir have visited Scarborough and it has been a pleasure to welcome them to our practice.

“Many of the children in Uganda have little or no access to dental care in their home towns, and any treatment that is available to them is often very expensive.

“That’s why we offer each member of the choir a complimentary check-up and scale and polish, as well as access to preventive dental treatment such as fissure sealants and fluoride varnish.

“The children in the choir are extremely hard working and enthusiastic about their cause. During their three-month visit to the UK, they travel around the country holding concerts in schools and churches to raise funds for the schools they attend in Uganda. Their energy is fantastic, and they’re always so grateful for the dental care we provide them – some even said they can’t wait to get their teeth checked and cleaned next year.”
