THE WORK of 12 talented young photographers will be available to view in a calendar highlighting Pickering and the surrounding area.

For the second year running, the town's Beck Isle Museum held a photographic competition with two categories – one for under 12s and the other fo under 17s.

The contest, sponsored by Pickering in Business, was organised to raise funds for the museum, Pickering In Bloom and the town’s Christmas lights appeal.

Matthew Wilkinson, from Television House, a member of Pickering in Business, said the best 12 photos had been selected for the calendar, with a prize for the overall winners from each of the two categories.

“The youngsters produced some really good pictures which will make an impressive calendar," he added.

"We will certainly look at running a competition again next year as it had helped to get younger people involved with the town as well as helping to raise money for local organisations."

The under 17 competition winner was Luke Armstrong, of Northway, Pickering, whose entry was: The Gaggle, Staindale Lake and runner up was Ethan Hawtin, of Westgate, Pickering, his entry was titled: Daisies at Pickering Castle.

The under 12 category was won by Drew Brown, of Lowther Place, Southgate, Pickering, his entry was titled 'The Three Woolly Jumpers', while Joe Armstrong, of Northway, Pickering, was runner up, his entry was titled: Corn Field, High Backside, Middleton.

Overall winners were presented with a digital camera donated by Television House, who are sponsors of Beck Isle Museum and the runner-up prize money was donated by a Pickering businessman.
