Half-term may be coming to an end but there are still plenty of events happening across Ryedale as Halloween and bonfire night celebrations get underway.

Kaboom at Castle Howard
The Ghostbusters themed firework event on Saturday promises to be full of spooky fun and games as well as a spectacular firework display. There will also be a Fright Night funfair and the chance to tuck in to some Halloween and bonfire night related tasty treats. The fun kicks off at 5.30pm with carnival performers, fire jugglers and fire hooplas and the fireworks will start at about 7.30pm. For more information visit castlehoward.co.uk

Helmsley’s annual bonfire and fireworks display at Helmsley Sports & Sports Club
Organisers are hailing this year’s event as the biggest and best to date with a showstopping firework display as well as stalls selling a variety of food including burgers, hot dogs and sweets.
For children there is a stall specialising in light-up toys and cosmic swords and there will be the chance to have a go at a game inspired by the TV game show Play Your Cards Right.
Gates open at 6pm and the bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm. The firework display will begin at 7pm on Saturday. Entry is £4 for children and adults and under 5s can go in for free.

Halloween celebrations at Flamingo Land and Zoo
Flamingo Land’s extravagant nine day celebrations come to a close this weekend with pumpkin carving, arts and crafts and a host of other activities throughout the park this Halloween.
There is a two-for-one fancy dress admission offer and visitors can enjoy what the Mischief Mansion has to offer as well as the Carnival of Horrors before the fireworks finale across the weekend.

Dark Skies at Sutton Bank National Park Centre
Thanks to low levels of light pollution and clear horizons, Sutton Bank is now an official Dark Sky Discovery Site.
On Saturday from 6.30-8pm guests are invited to join York Astronomical Society for a night of star-gazing. Visitors are welcome to bring their own telescope if they have one and there will be talks in the National Park Centre from star-gazing experts. Entry for adults is £3 and £1.50 for children. Waterproofs are advised.

A Night with The Light, Helmsley Arts Centre
York Light Opera Company makes a welcome return to Helmsley Arts Centre on Saturday night with the much loved musical show A Night with the Light.
The show promises to be a crowd pleaser for all ages as the actors perform a brand new selection of songs from the shows including Barnum, Ragtime, Guys 'n' Dolls, Miss Saigon, Fiddler on the Roof. Proceeds from the evening will be shared with Malton based charity, Ryedale Special Families. The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £8 for adults and £6 for concessions.
