A LONG warm summer has resulted in a spectacular show of autumn colour at the Yorkshire Arboretum, near Castle Howard.

The 120-acre garden of trees is awash with swathes of red and gold foliage, which show no sign of fading any time soon.

John Grimshaw, Yorkshire Arboretum director, said: “The trees here are glorious in every season but this autumn has been quite spectacular so far. We expect the colour to continue well into November as some trees have yet to reach the height of their autumn display.”

The Yorkshire Arboretum and Ray Wood are gardens of the Castle Howard Arboretum Trust, an independent charity established to maintain and protect these unique collections.

Founded in 1997 as a partnership between the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and Castle Howard, the Trust’s patron is HRH The Prince of Wales.

The Yorkshire Arboretum is located next to Castle Howard and is open from 10am to 4pm every day from March to November. Admission is £6 for adults, £3 for juniors and £15 for families. Under 12s are admitted free.
