PARENTS have been warned not to provide alcohol to youths, after a teenager was taken to hospital after a drunken party in North Yorkshire.

Police were called to a property in Church Lane, Slingsby, near Malton, on Friday after complaints about antisocial behaviour, and found a large number of  children as young as 14 who had been drinking alcohol.

Officers seized what they called "a vast quantity of alcohol", which included two and a half litres of rum, two bottles of vodka, ten bottles or cider, more than 50 bottles and cans of beer and lager, and various alcopops, and found a similar number of empties.

A spokeswoman said one 15-year-old boy had to be taken to hospital by paramedics, as he was unable to stand and "vomiting profusely".

Sergeant Neil Campbell of Malton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "It goes without saying that consuming this amount of alcohol at such a young age could have had serious implications on the young people’s health, not to mention their personal safety, in particular, the immediate danger of being in close proximity to the roads while drunk.

"The safety of young people is a priority for the police and the drink was seized to protect the children from further harm. We ask that parents also play their part in keeping their children safe. Please know where they are going and check to ensure that any parties they are attending are properly supervised."

The spokeswoman could not confirm whether any action had been taken against those who provided the alcohol to the underage youths.
