A CANCER support group has been saved from the brink of closure thanks to a donation from a Ryedale holiday park.
Wayside Holiday Park, in Wrelton near Pickering, made a generous donation to the Ryedale Cancer Support and Social Group, which meets on a monthly basis at the WRVS Centre in Pickering.
Driffield-based businessman Mark Goodson, who owns the business, offered financial support to safeguard the charity’s future when its existence was thrown into jeopardy as a result of funding cuts.
Peter Anderson, who volunteers with the group, said: "In the early part of 2014 we faced the prospect of closure as the funding provided over the past ten years was withdrawn.
“We approached Mark Goodson of Wayside Holiday Park to ask for support and were delighted to receive a significant donation.
"This meant that we could continue to operate our monthly meetings, which allow people who are, or have been, affected by cancer to escape their normal routines and gain mutual support from others in similar position."
