VOLUNTEERS at St Catherine’s Hospice shop, in Pickering, are celebrating after the Railway in Wartime weekend brought in thousands of pounds for patient care.
Hospice supporters had been collecting vintage stock to fill the shop with wartime clothes and memorabilia. As a result, they managed to make just short of £5,000 in a week.
Debbie Jewison, Retail Manger for Saint Catherine’s, said the shop had been really busy and they were delighted with the amount raised.
“We just want to thank everyone at the shop, all the customers and all the generous people who donated things for us to sell,” she added.
“The money raised will benefit patients, including many in Ryedale.”
Saint Catherine’s is appealing for more volunteers to support its work in the Ryedale area.
More are needed to help in the shops in Pickering, Malton and Helmsley and at the day hospice in Malton which is particularly short of volunteer drivers.
