COLOURED projections and flickering candles will cast a new light on Castle Howard as the historic house takes part in the Illuminating York festival for the first time this year.

See the stately home brought to life by ‘living portraits’ who will share stories of the leading lights from throughout its 300 year history, when the house extends it’s opening into the evening between Wednesday, 29 to Friday, October 31.

Katie Pryor, events manager said: ‘We are really excited to be taking part in the Illuminating York festival for the first time this year. This popular event always captures people’s imaginations and we’re pleased to be a part of this.

"The use of candlelight and coloured projections will create a unique visual spectacular and a whole new experience for visitors to enjoy.’

As darkness falls, the house facade will be brought to life with coloured illuminations with the interiors bathed in the light of candles and log fires.

Choral music in the magnificent Pre-Raphaelite Chapel will complete the evening.

During the festival the house, shops and cafés will be open until 8pm, with last admission to the house at 7pm.

Day visitors are welcome to stay on into the evening at no extra charge, or evening-only tickets can be bought in advance online from the Castle Howard website or at their Ticket Office on the night, subject to availability.
