GARDENERS are being encouraged to take part in today’s annual Kirkbymoorside Horticultural Society show.

Show secretary Jill Hugill said that although the show received a good number of entries, the majority were from outside the town itself.

“We know there are many good gardeners locally who could take part,” she added.

“The show would like to see more gardeners from in and around Kirkbymoorside taking part.”

It takes over two floors of the town’s Memorial Hall with classes for vegetables, flowers, fruit, homecrafts, children’s classes, and photography. Mrs Hugill said that with the recent fine weather organisers were hopeful for a bumper display of flowers, fruit and vegetables.

“We are especially hopeful that the dahlias and chrysanthemums aren’t damaged by any winds because we get some brilliant blooms from specialist growers who compete in the National Dahlia and Chrysanthemum Societies awards,” she added.

“It is an excellent show with lots of trophies to be won - and we would love to see some keen interest from Kirkbymoorside residents.”
