Sam’s customers pledged nearly £900 in sponsorship with other fundraising taking her total to more than £1,000.

“The money people have pledged is absolutely amazing,” Sam said. “I’m so grateful.”

Sam has done the walk every year since its launch as a thank you to the hospice which cared for her mother, Jan Hatton, who was only 46 when she died.

She said: “My mum died the week before Christmas and she got the most brilliant care.

"Although 10 years have passed since then, I have never forgotten the care mum received and every year, a group of friends and I do the Starlight Walk in memory of mum and to raise money for the care of future patients."

Penny Campbell, hospice fundraiser, thanked everyone involved with the event, including the people who took part from the Ryedale area.

“We cover a huge area and it’s great to have so much support from the towns and villages in Ryedale,” she said. “

We’re delighted with the amount raised. Thanks to everyone who supported Sam and our other Ryedale walkers.”
