AN APPEAL has been made for more volunteers to help at Beck Isle Museum in Pickering.

The museum which reflects local life in Ryedale over the last 200 years, is volunteer led and run by a group of trustees.

Mike Haigh, one of the trustees, said they were in constant need of people to help out.

"Unfortunately this year we seem to have lost quite a few of our longer serving members, who mainly having been caught up by the effects of age eventually having to call it a day," he added.

"Sadly we have also had one or two who passed away this year. "

Mike said: "We are now actively seeking new members and need people to man the reception desk as stewards, to help with maintenance, admin work, crafts and to take responsibility for custodial work in specific areas.

The museum is also looking for volunteers to help with specialist positions such as banking and bookkeeping.

"There are many other interesting areas help out in, for instance at the moment we urgently need a blacksmith," he added.

"We are a good, friendly team and would love to hear from anyone who is interested in getting involved."
