A CHARITY supporting health and education throughout the world will provide a five-year funding plan for Jack Berry House in Malton.

The Reuben Foundation will contribute towards the hydrotherapy pool at the new facility which is due to open next spring.

Manufactured in Pennsylvania, the pool was built to specification for Jack Berry House before being transported to the UK.

The Hydroworx 500 Therapy Pool, to be known as The Reuben Foundation Rehabilitation Pool, will play a key part of the training and rehabilitation, with features such as an underwater treadmill, massage hoses and performance monitoring systems.

Jack Berry House is under construction on a two-acre site near Malton and Norton Rugby Club.

The £3m centre, which will also include respite accommodation, a gym and various treatment rooms, will be the Injured Jockey Fund’s (IJF) second rehabilitation centre in the country Lisa Hancock, chief executive of the IJF, said: “We are thrilled that The Reuben Foundation has offered such a generous contribution for Jack Berry House.

“At Oaksey House, equipment such as the Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill has shown the importance of world class training and recovery equipment, and The Reuben Foundation Rehabilitation pool at Jack Berry House will be a flagship component in helping with fitness and aiding recovery for anyone who uses it. We set out to achieve more than £3m in fundraising and are almost – but not quite – there, so all donations are still very welcome.”

The Reuben Foundation was formed in 2002 by David and Simon Reuben, owners of Arena Racing Company.

A spokesman said: “We are thrilled to be able to announce the Reuben Foundation’s support for Jack Berry House.”

Jockey Micky Fenton, said: “I broke my neck in a fall last September and had to travel from Malton to Oaksey House, in Lambourn, for help with my recovery. Having Jack Berry House in this part of the country will make such a massive difference in the north and I shall be one of the first in The Reuben Foundation rehabilitation pool, which will be of huge benefit to so many of our injuries.”
