A CHURCH organist is giving up his role — in order to go to university.
When St Laurence’s Church, in Kirby Misperton, advertised for an organist four years ago, the congregation did not expect that the successful candidate would be 14 years old.
Now 18, Tom Wrench, from Middleton, is about to study history and politics at the University of Edinburgh — and that means the church is searching for a new organist.
Churchwarden Camilla Tetley said: “We have been so fortunate to have had Tom playing for us. He will be a hard act to follow.
“But age is no barrier. We will welcome and support anyone who feels they can play the organ for our services.”
Tom said: “I played for the Bishop of Whitby and the Archbishop of York. My thanks go to the congregations for their support over the last few years.”
Anyone interested in becoming organist at St Laurence’s can call Camilla Tetley on 01653 668638.
