LOCAL residents will have the opportunity to question the development team behind plans to build 500 new homes in Malton.

Consultants including Masterplanner Leon Krier and concept architect Jan Maciag will attend next Saturday’s event at the Milton Rooms.

Plans for a 21-hectare site between Castle Howard Road and Middlecave Road, with the A64 forming the western boundary, have been submitted by the Fitzwilliam Malton Estate.

Provisionally named High Malton, the proposed development is described as a self-contained community of homes, shops and employment.

It would include a significant proportion of affordable homes interspersed with properties ranging from bungalows to larger family houses.

Members of Malton Residents’ Group say there is great concern about the effect the development would have on the character of the town and Ryedale.

They are also concerned about an increase in the number of HGVs in the area and the impact on the setting of the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Tobias Burckhardt, surveyor for Fitzwilliam Malton Estate, said the meeting on 6th September (10am to noon) will enable local residents to learn more about the proposal to create a sympathetic extension to Malton.
