AUGUST’S Monthly Food Market in Malton was another great success, according to the event’s organisers.

Along with regular favourites, including music from Malton White Star Band, a wide selection of food and drink stalls and three different cookery demonstrations took place.

Anthony Gilham, from the New Malton, Tom Naylor-Leyland, director of Malton Food Lovers Festival, and Florian Poirot, of FP Macaroons, entertained audiences with a variety of cookery demonstration, which included a full three-course meal, two Italian-inspired dishes and swan sugar sculptures.

Tom Naylor-Leyland said: “It was a delight to demonstrate food preparation in front of a live and enthusiastic audience.

“As I have had lessons at Malton Cookery School, I was very well prepared.

“My dishes included a summer minestrone soup and a shellfish pasta dish.

“I bought all the ingredients in Malton, including fresh shellfish, Fellini pasta, and fresh herbs, so people could easily prepare the dish at home after visiting the shops.”

Anthony, chef at the New Malton pub, prepared a starter of pan fried pigeon, a main course of smoked cod loin and chorizo butter and a pudding of French-toasted brioche with banana and honey.

Florian, who also had his stall FP Macaroons at the market, created delicate swans out of sugar, showing his highly-skilled craft at its best.

The next market takes place on Saturday, September 13.
