A RYEDALE firefighter has thanked her supporters as she prepares to compete in the World Cross-triatholon Championships.

Kathryn Lazenby, who as an amateur triathlete has to fund her own participation in events, has secured sponsorship from a number of local firms.

The 37-year-old is aiming for a top-ten finish at the competition this weekend, after claimed fourth place at the European Cross-triathlon Age Group Championships last month.

“Fourth place is the worst position to come, because you’re so close to a top-three finish," Kathryn said.

“I am really looking forward to the World Championship challenge and hope to take it as far as I can.”

She added: "“My training has been going well and I am hoping for a top-ten finish.”

Kathryn has also undertaken several charity fundraising challenges, completing a 1,250 mile ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 2010.

Next year, she plans to ride the Arctic Circle in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care.

Kathryn said she was grateful for the support she had received with current sponsors including CycleStreet of York, Britcom International, Market Weighton, Grange Farm Bed and Breakfast, Bulmer, Chantry Wensleydales, Ecolime at Terrington and Banks Music in Hovingham.

"I would like to thank all my sponsors for their support - I am very grateful," she added.
