THE rain managed to hold off for most of the day as visitors flocked to the 95th annual Thornton-le-Dale show.

With classes in everything from pygmy goats to the best Victoria sponge cake there was something to keep everyone entertained and visitors were also treated to gun dog shows and an extreme bike performance.

The show, held at The Showground, Maltongate, has continued to grow year-on-year and judges at this year's show estimated that entries were up once again.

Philip Parkin, who was judging the goat classes throughout the day, said: "It's a proper country show and once again we have had some fantastic entries in our classes.

"I'd say they are up once again on last year and they're getting better every time."

John Cavana, who had brought his gun dogs from Patanavac Gundogs to the show, said that despite having toured Europe with his dogs, exhibiting them at Thornton-le-Dale show is always the highlight in his calendar.

He said: "We travel the length and breadth of the country and we go to Europe, but this is my favourite show because it's a traditional country show with something for everyone."
