FIREFIGHTERS in Ryedale will be operating as normal during an eight-day strike period as part of an ongoing row with the Government over cuts to pensions and longer working hours.

The latest round of strikes will begin on Saturday and will be held each day from noon until 2pm and from 10.59pm to 23.59pm, the Fire Brigades Union said.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the strikes will affect Scarborough rather than Ryedale. He said: “We will more or less have a normal service in Ryedale.”
