A SCHOOLBOY is continuing his great-grandfather's legacy by raising funds for St Leonard's Hospice.

Jack Midgley, a pupil at Leavening Primary School, organised a sponsored walk from the village to Acklam and back.

The nine-year-old wanted to raise funds for the hospice after his great-grandfather Eric Sleightholme, had done the same every year on his birthday.

Jack's mum, Liz Hudson, said he had been promoted to do something after Eric passed away last year.

"Jack wanted to carry on fundraising and asked the school if he could do a sponsored walk," she added.

"The whole school took part with years one to six taking part in the full walk while the younger children walked round a nearby ield."

Liz said that were still collecting the sponsorship money which would be divided between St Leonard's and the school.

"We are all very proud of him and Jack is hoping to do more," she added.

"Eric would also have been proud of him and highly delighted with what he has achieved."
